Welcome back to All Things Eerie.  Every reader who accepts Arthur Conan Doyle’s invitation to “come through the magic door” discovers a world in which the senses are a thin veneer over an unsettling psychological and spiritual realm, a realm in which possibilities have no limits.

Tonight’s story, “Selecting a Ghost” shows Doyle’s familiarity with and mastery over supernatural details.  Our narrator and protagonist, a Mr. D’Odd, informs us of a major shortcoming attributed to his home, Goresthorpe Grange:  it has no ghost.  

Now follow us as we watch Mr. D’Odd in his attempts to correct this fault in his living quarters by enlisting Mrs. D’Odd as his accomplice in securing a ghost through one of her shady acquaintances, a Mr. Jack Brocket.
