Carmilla, Part I
The tale you are about to hear is one of the most famous of vampire stories and predates Bram Stoker’s Dracula by over a quarter century.
Carmilla, Joseph Sheridan LeFanu’s compelling tale of a young woman’s seduction by a female vampire, was first published in serial form in 1871 and 1872. It remains today a foundation and staple for the entire genre of vampire tales and legends.
As we begin this evening’s episodes of our story, we are presented with an account by a young woman of 27, Laura, who relates her experiences of living in a castle, or schloss, with her father. We are also introduced to a very mysterious and beautiful young lady who is left by her mother to be a guest there.
And now, turn down the lights, and join us for Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan LeFanu, Part I, Chapters 1 and 2….
