Intro
Note: All the songs on the album are stylized in lowercase.
GNX is Kendrick Lamar's sixth studio album. Fresh off his highly publicized battle with Drake, K.Dot doesn't miss a beat. Throughout this album, he doubles down on the issues he has with the hip-hop industry, highlights West Coast culture, and calls out specific artists.
Music
The album is full of features that will remind of your adolescence/young adulthood. "squabble up" samples "When I Hear Music" by Debbie Deb. "luther" samples "If This World were Mine" performed by Luther Vandross and written by Marvin Gaye.
If those weren't enough, Lamar also samples "Made N____" by Tupac on "reincarnated," which assists with the theory of the album having the same vibes of Tupac's Makaveli.
A reoccurring theme in the album is a mixture of new and old West Coast (specifically Los Angeles) sounds. Lamar does this with great beat selections and providing lesser-known L.A. artists opportunities to shine, such as Peysoh, Hitta J3, AzChike, Lefty Gunplay, and YoungThreat.
If you are a fan of KungFu Kenny's The Heart Series, GNX includes the latest installment, "heart pt. 6." (stylized differently from the rest of the series due to Drake's use of the title during his battle with Kendrick).
